Acrylic, Velvet, Leatherette or Wood: Choosing a Display Material

The deepest, most traditional look. Best for hero pieces and windows. Marks easily and fades in sunlight.

Microfiber for daily counter use

Most of velvet's richness with better resistance to fingerprints and flattening. The practical default for busy shops.

Leatherette for a modern, wipeable case

Cleans in seconds and reads contemporary. Less depth, and it shows scratches on darker colours.

Acrylic for lightness and windows

Nearly invisible, so the piece appears to float. Scuffs go cloudy and it attracts dust through static.

Wood for warmth and boutique feel

Reads craft and permanence. Heavier, harder to match across batches, and it will move slightly with humidity.

Metal for structure, rarely for the ground

Frames and T-bars in metal look sharp, but metal against metal jewellery flattens the piece.

Mixing materials is the common mistake

One family per case. If you want variety, vary height and colour, not material.

Ask what the customer will touch

Anything the customer handles should feel soft and substantial. Anything they only look at can be lighter and cheaper.
