Craft Fair Display Checklist: How to Set Up a Jewellery Stall That Sells

Setting up at a craft fair or weekend market? Your display is your shopfront. After supplying jewellery displays to market sellers and boutiques since 1971, we've seen what actually sells jewellery at a busy stall — and what gets walked past. Here's the checklist we give our own customers.

1. Get your jewellery off the table

Flat jewellery is invisible jewellery. Shoppers scan a market stall in about three seconds, and anything lying flat on a tablecloth simply doesn't register. Height is the single biggest upgrade you can make:

  • Earrings: a T-bar or multi-tier earring stand lifts studs and drops to eye level and lets them catch the light.
  • Necklaces: a bust or tall stand shows the true hanging length — buyers want to see how a pendant sits.
  • Rings: multi-slot ring trays keep sizes tidy and let customers browse without tangling your stock.

2. Build three levels of height

Professional visual merchandisers work in threes: tall at the back (necklace busts), medium in the middle (earring stands), low at the front (ring trays and dishes). This creates a "staircase" that guides the eye through your whole range instead of one crowded plane.

3. Keep a consistent colour story

Mixed, mismatched displays make even beautiful jewellery look like a clearance bin. Pick one material family — all velvet, all microfiber, all metal — in a neutral tone (grey, beige, black) so the jewellery is the hero, not the props. If your brand has a signature colour, use it once as an accent, not everywhere.

4. Plan for wind, crowds and knocks

Outdoor markets are brutal on flimsy acrylic. Look for weighted metal bases and stands that pack flat or nest into a tub. A display that topples once an hour costs you sales and nerves. This is why market sellers tend to re-order metal T-bars and solid-base stands — they survive the van, the wind and the toddler.

5. Make testing easy

A small mirror at each end of the table and a felt tray in front of your bestsellers quietly tells shoppers "you're allowed to touch". Jewellery that gets tried on gets bought.

6. Pack-down is part of the plan

Count your setup time. If it takes more than 20 minutes, simplify: stands that stay assembled, trays that stack loaded, one tub per table zone. Your future 6am self will thank you.

Quick checklist before your next market

  • ☐ At least one tall display (bust or tiered stand) per table
  • ☐ Three height levels: back / middle / front
  • ☐ One consistent display colour family
  • ☐ Weighted or wind-safe stands for outdoor pitches
  • ☐ Mirror + try-on tray within reach
  • ☐ 20-minute setup, one-tub pack-down
