Opening a Jewellery Shop: The Display Set You Actually Need First

New shops over-buy window props and under-buy counter trays. The counter is where the money is decided.

A workable starter list

Two or three ring trays, one pendant ramp, two necklace busts, one earring stand, a set of three risers, and one neutral pad for showing pieces to a customer.

Buy one finish family and stay in it

Adding a second finish later is easy. Correcting a mismatched set is expensive.

Leave budget for a second buy at month three

You will not know your real mix until you have traded. Holding back a third of the display budget is smarter than guessing now.

Do not buy a full window set on day one

Windows change constantly. Buy the minimum that looks intentional and add once you know what sells.

Order a sample before a set

Colour, pile and stiffness vary between suppliers. One sample tray answers more questions than any photograph.

Think about the presentation moment

The pad or tray you place in front of a seated customer is doing the most work in the whole shop. Do not make that the cheapest item you own.

Keep the boxes

Display props get moved for cleaning, refits and markets. The original packaging is worth the shelf space.
