Watch Displays for Shops: Pillows, Stands and Counter Sets

A watch laid flat shows a slumped bracelet. A pillow or cuff holds the curve so the watch reads as it will on a wrist.

Pillow size is not one size

Too small and the bracelet gapes; too large and the clasp strains. Keep two or three pillow sizes for different case and strap widths.

Angle the dial towards standing eye level

A dial facing straight up is read at a squint. Ten to twenty degrees of tilt makes it legible from standing height.

Crown out, always

Consistent crown orientation across a case is a small detail that separates a considered display from a shelf.

Leather straps need air

Storing leather straps compressed on a tight pillow creases them. A slightly looser cuff keeps the strap straight.

Group by strap type, not brand

Customers shop by metal bracelet versus leather versus rubber more often than by maker, unless the maker is the reason they came in.

Keep the second hand moving

A stopped watch in a case is a dead watch. Automatic pieces need a winder or a weekly wind; quartz needs a battery diary.

Protect against UV

Dials and leather both fade. Watches are the worst items to leave in a sunlit window unrotated.
